Biography
Born November 23 1988 in the city of Luninets, Brest region. Graduated from music school, piano class.

At the age of 14 he became interested in hip-hop. He recorded his first song, “Tata Luninets,” at the age of 17. By that time, Max and his friends had created their own group, Lunclan, whose participants rapped in Belarusian. The group recorded an online album “Rumble Belarusian music with me”, and in February 2007 joined the Minsk underground party M.U.Skool.

Max wanted to continue to be “friends” with music and enroll in a music school, but his parents dissuaded him - in their opinion, it was impossible to live and earn money from music. Korzh entered the Faculty of International Relations (FME BSU), where he studied for two years. The chosen specialty was a burden, and before the third year Korzh dropped out. Then there was the army reserve, from which Max returned already popular - the song “Heaven will help us”, recorded before the conscription, became a hit on the Internet.

1st of May 2012 the musician released his debut album entitled “Animal World”, which included 17 tracks. At the same time, Korzh held a large number of concerts in the cities of Belarus, presenting a new album.

In summer 2012 Max Korzh signed a contract with the famous Russian label “Respect Production”, owned by the group “Casta”. With their help, the artist shot two videos for the tracks “Where am I” and “In the Dark,” which instantly became popular online and were also broadcast on many music TV channels in the CIS.

In March 2013, the musician won the award Street Awards in the “Artist of the Year” nomination, and three months later, the famous Russian TV channel, holding its annual music award, included Max Korzh in the list of contenders for victory in the “Breakthrough of the Year” nomination.

Interesting Facts:

• The turning point in the musician’s career was the concert on March 7, 2013 at the Minsk Sports Palace. Such a concert was a risky step, because before that a much smaller-scale performance by Korzh had failed in Minsk - very few people came to the presentation of the album in one of the Minsk clubs, the event did not pay off. However, this time listeners bought up tickets so quickly that they had to print another thousand more. Six thousand people came to the concert, and Max Korzh became the first independent Belarusian musician who was able to do this. • Max Korzh is a descendant of the famous Vasily Korzh, the creator of the first active partisan detachment during the Great Patriotic War. Vasily Zakharovich is the brother of the musician’s great-grandmother.

The name of Max Korzh recently became known to the general public. And the performer himself is still young - he is only 26 years old. However, this did not stop him from being nominated as “Breakthrough of the Year” at the annual Muz-TV awards two years ago, and last year from winning the “Album of the Year” nomination.
In interviews, he is often asked whether his name is a creative pseudonym? There is no secret to this. Max Korzh is his real name, according to his passport he is Maxim Anatolyevich Korzh. So he didn’t have to invent anything.

The performer was born in Belarus on November 23, 1988. He spent his childhood in the small town of Luninets, in the Brest region. The boy loved music from early childhood, so when he grew up to music school, his parents sent him there to study. Interest in music did not disappear over the years, but only intensified, which resulted in the creation of his own group “LunClan” at the age of 16. The collaboration between the young musicians did not last long, then there were several more groups. But Max did not enjoy serious success then, and no one noticed his talent either.

Maxim tried to work as a beatmaker for some time, writing songs for other performers. But luck didn’t particularly smile on him then either.
After graduating from school, Maxim entered the Belarusian State University. While studying, his first song was born. Somehow his studies were not going well, and as a result, after completing three courses, the young man decided to leave the university and devote himself entirely to music.
The first song he recorded was “Heaven Will Help Us,” which later became a hit. But then no one knew about her future. Max borrowed $300 from his mother, recorded his first song and posted it on the VKontakte social network.

Since the young man who had not graduated from a university had to serve in the army, Max had to go there. Meanwhile, the song was floating around the Internet and achieved considerable fame and popularity; moreover, a number of local Belarusian radio stations took it on the air. Then Max decided to involve DJs in promoting his song in clubs.

Max Korzh, musical career

The musical career of the young solo performer continued with various concerts in his native Belarus. In April 2012, he managed to record a video for his hit “The Sky Will Help Us,” which immediately became a leader in various chats. And already in the summer of the same year, his first album “Animal World” was released, consisting of 16 songs, the author of the words of which was the singer himself.

The year turned out to be busy for the performer; he was lucky enough to sign a contract with Respect Production, after which he began performing outside his homeland - in Russia and Ukraine. And in March of the following year, he even managed to give a concert at the Minsk Sports Palace; the singer was worried until the last moment whether he would be able to gather such a significant audience. But it turned out that people came, there weren’t even enough places. It was a triumph. In the summer, he became a nominee for the Muz-TV award as “Breakthrough of the Year”, and in November his new album “Live in High” was released, which won the “Album of the Year” category at the next award.

And last year the third album of this now popular rap artist was released, it was called “Home”. Now his concerts have begun to take place not only in the CIS, but also abroad, in particular in Europe.

For all his success, Max is self-taught when it comes to musical education. He had a desire to enter a music school, but his parents dissuaded him.

The singer's wife is a bank worker and is an economist and marketer by training. After the birth of her daughter, Tatyana raised her, and when Emilia grew up and her mother had free time, she began doing charity work, helping orphanages.

Brief biography of the musician

He posted the composition on the Internet, and it instantly became popular, but Korzh found out about it only after returning home. The success of the song was another confirmation of the need to develop on the musical path, and Max completely immersed himself in creativity.

His first disc, in which Korzh collected songs written over three years, was released in 2012.

“For three years I wrote songs, after which I put them together and noticed that all these songs fit under one theme, which I defined as “Animal World”. The album was written for audiences of different age categories, from teenagers to adults,” says Max about his first album.

The young artist’s creativity was noticed by the music company “Respect Production”, which offered Max a contract.

From that moment on, his concert activity began, Korzh began filming videos for his songs, and he himself became the director of many videos, and the first video was a video shot for the very first song that brought him popularity.

Max Korzh recorded his last video, released in 2018, for the song “Mountains Knee-deep”, and in total he has twenty-one videos that enjoy constant success among fans of the talented successful musician.

Max Korzh tours a lot and gives concerts not only in Belarus, but also in foreign cities. He has already visited Prague, Warsaw and London with his performances.

Max Korzh’s last full interview with the press took place in 2013, after the Belarusian musician unexpectedly gathered the Sports Palace for a solo concert. Since then, Max has given many sold-out concerts at the largest venues in the CIS and has become one of the most talked-about media personalities in Belarus. In an interview with Onliner.by, he spoke about his love for the Belarusian outback, laughed at his own last name, treated commentators on the Internet with understanding and promised that serious things were ahead.

We meet Max 60 kilometers from Minsk: the musician invited everyone to the Martsinova Gus estate to participate in the creation of a poster announcing a series of big concerts. It's simple: Korzh sent out a cry on social networks, to which fans of the Belarusian immediately responded.

Now it’s a bit empty here: people haven’t arrived yet. Max, looking less like a youth idol and more like a simple guy from a neighboring yard, greets us with a broad smile. He jumps onto a wooden fence like a boy, looks around and says with some trepidation: “I would love to lie down in the grass somewhere and fall asleep.”

We are filming a poster that will hang on all the pillars of the city: a series of concerts will be held in Minsk, Kyiv, St. Petersburg and Moscow. We are preparing in advance, because this will be a full-fledged show. People liked the last “Big Flat”, and this time we will try to make everything much cooler. This year I attended many concerts - Muse, 30 Seconds to Mars - and realized what people miss even at such concerts. And we will do it :)

- Jared Leto is an idol, a sex symbol for young people. Do you feel like this?

A sex symbol - definitely not, what are you talking about! I'm a married man! I am simply fulfilling the task that the listeners of Belarus and the entire CIS have entrusted to me. This task is to do something interesting and unusual, but at the same time close, to delight people.

- Some Belarusians are quite skeptical about your work. Do you react to this painfully?

Yes, I also talked a lot about artists when I was a listener. I was an angry spectator :) Of course, my upbringing did not allow me to write about this on the Internet, but I filtered the musicians very strictly. Let's say Max Korzh. I am sure that many will not listen to me, if only because of my first and last name. I wouldn't do it myself. Max Korzh... Well, what kind of name is this?

It would be easier for me to come up with something more sonorous. But even the last name is the first filter that cuts off those who are led by a sonorous picture and leaves the positive and sincere - those who know how to look at things from different sides. They are the ones who get all the cake at our crazy parties. I don't need snobs standing at a concert with dried fruit faces. Only free people.

- So initially you just need to leave prejudices?

This is the first thing modern society teaches us. This is what life taught me. This understanding comes with age. When I was 18-20 years old, I did not want to accept what was uncharacteristic of me. Our generation was brought up on American culture, and now European culture is gaining momentum. The American - more primitive - fades into the background, and people have some kind of alternative. European culture teaches us to look at a product from different angles: creativity and the right to life of any creativity. Take the interior, for example. If you bring my grandmother to a modern apartment now, she will say: “What are you talking about! So much money wasted on ordinary wooden floors!” Everything got mixed up, and the opportunity arose to check out the simplest things - from previously incomprehensible music to an old wooden hut on Grushevka. I'm afraid to imagine what will happen next.

Now is the best time for creativity, all clichés and boundaries are going away. Maybe I got into this movement with my first and last name? I don't know.

- You also live somewhere in Grushevka? Do you often get recognized on the streets?

Yes, they will find out everywhere. At the moment, the hairstyle helps a little.

- We were talking about corporate events. Can I order Max Korzh?

I don’t speak at corporate events, although, in principle, I never said that I wouldn’t do it. It’s just that, apparently, my psychological readiness has not yet formed; I cannot stand and sing a song at some corporate meeting. I need people who really came to the concert to hear and experience something, to get emotions together. And “corporate parties”, you understand... Previously, when I was just an MC, I had continuous parties. I once performed at the Madison club in front of fifteen drunk patrons, and I got drunk and partied with them. And then I started giving normal concerts, and I had the opportunity to soberly mind my own business.

- How much does the Respest Production label limit you?

Naturally, the label realized at an early stage that if the artist is self-sufficient and knows which direction to move, then all he has to do is make sure that nothing happens to him. The guys are minding their own business. But you can see from my creativity that no one is holding me back at all.

- Many people criticized you for being too sexist on your third album.

On the third album? So they didn't listen to the first one :) These critics came out of nowhere, because people who followed me understand that the third album is just flowers compared to the debut album. At Domashny, I just wanted to unload from the “seriousness” that was on the second. But everyone saw there what they were looking for.

- You started with Belarusian-language rap, and appeared on the cover of Domashny wearing an embroidered shirt.

I didn't mean to say anything that way. I just thought it would be cool to show the family, like in the photo of my grandfather. And so it happened, everyone appreciated it.

- Should we wait for the continuation of the topic?

Listen, naturally, as a creative unit, I am obliged to make at least some contribution to the development of culture, since this land raised me! Minsk radically influenced my popularity, my ascension began from there: the guys and I assembled the Sports Palace, Minsk Arena, people supported me. So I have to give back somehow for that. But how - only God knows. For now I'm just relaxing. A serious task, apparently, still lies ahead, because we must constantly move forward.

- How long will this vacation last?

And there was no work yet. I just wrote everything I thought. The idea was to convey my worldview to people. But promoting some Belarusian topic is a very serious task for which we need to prepare.

Moving culture is not easy. You need budgets and a lot of effort. For example, create a serious festival in Belarus, like the Hungarian Sziget. In theory this is possible. After all, our country has an excellent geographical location.

- Is it worth waiting for the miraculous rebirth of Max Korzh?

I don't know, it happens to me every day. As life turns, so we will move. You are simply watching one person's development, that's all. His worldview changes, and so does his music.

Today you are the most popular Belarusian artist, you have gathered the largest Belarusian concert venue. Where to go next?

Previously there was quantity, but now there is a movement towards quality. More subtle moments will help to reach deeper to each person who came to the concert.

I don't know what has to happen for me to collect it for three days in a row. One was enough for me for a long time.

- Mostly young people go to your concerts. Do you often see older people during performances?

Now more often. We have been touring for three years now - during this time 18-year-olds have become 21-year-olds, and 15-year-olds have turned 18. My lyrics are actually about adult life, so young people can feel the music, the mood, and an adult will listen to the lyrics and understand it . It’s just more difficult to reach an adult listener: they are influenced by television and radio. But everything is changing. The Internet attracts everyone, and this can be seen at the concerts.

In general, a European listener, if he doesn’t like something, passes by, and a Belarusian listener begins to spread rot. Why is this happening?

I will even say more: the European listener will not pass by. They are interested in everything, any manifestation of creativity. Maybe it’s just hypocrisy and that’s their upbringing, but for Europeans it’s important that you at least do something. And the Belarusian public is, of course, a serious level.

- Do you often visit Luninets now?

I was recently. I didn’t want to come there before, because the associations were only with drunken parties - that’s how my youth passed. Unfortunately, I didn't grow up near the sea or mountains, and I didn't have the opportunity to snowboard or surf. Drinking, going to a disco and watching the wildlife, and sometimes participating - that's all we did. But, naturally, everything passed, and I came there to visit my family. I love Luninets. Beloved mother, sister, mother-in-law, daughter often goes there. I have a good relationship with my father; it has improved since my student days. Previously, it was like in the song “Living in a Bliss”: mom Valya and dad Tolya were spinning in hysterics. Now we are catching up, and my father is becoming a friend to me. Although I thought that this time would come when I was forty. He was at the “Big Flat” and, despite the enthusiastic responses, he calmly approached me and noted a bunch of “jambs”: pauses, problems with the light. We talked with him for a long time. I even invited him to join the creative group of the Big Flat, but he refused: they don’t pay enough :)

I wanted to figure it out: what kind of land is this on which I have lived all my life? I hope I'm not the only one who has these thoughts. I won’t say big words, but it is very important that people appreciate the place where they stand.

As Maxim himself says, he developed an interest in music as a child. At an early age, his parents sent him to a music school. After this there were several more projects, but all of them were not very successful. Max he even recorded songs in his native Belarusian language.

After all the failures, Maxim tried himself as a beatmaker, that is, he composed backing tracks for other performers. And this idea was not crowned with success, after which Max He began to sing himself to his own minuses.

While still studying at the Belarusian State University Max cake recorded his first solo song. Of course, it was a song with irony and even some mockery, or something, of girls. This was a kind of standard at that time.

“For my first studio recording, I borrowed $300 from my mother,” as Maxim himself says. “There were no producers, no connections. I posted my songs on the Internet.”

Having studied 2nd year at BSU, it was decided that studying interfered with music and, as a result, Max dropped out of university and seriously took up musical activity. I recorded my first song “Heaven will help us” for my mother’s 300 dollars, posted it on the social network VKontakte and within a week collected about a hundred likes.

After all this, Maxim was drafted into the army. After returning from it, he learned that the song had become very popular on the Internet. During this time, she gathered an impressive audience of listeners; she was even picked up for broadcast by some Minsk radio stations. During the last training camps in the army Max He turned out to be even cooler than his grandfathers - everyone just wanted to take a photo with him. After that, he began to actively “scatter” his songs to DJs so that they would play in clubs.

I wanted some kind of solo performance. The first album was somehow recorded at huge discounts. We traveled to regional and large district cities of Belarus with concerts. A series of “Takeoff March” concerts was planned in Belarus, Ukraine and Russia. The concert in Minsk took place on March 7, 2013 at the Sports Palace, despite the fact that Max had doubts about the venue for this concert for a long time, since it was very easy to “get money.” After all, not every Belarusian musician will be able to gather such a large audience. To the concert Max More than 6 thousand people came - this is a complete Sports Palace, we even had to organize additional seats in the stands.

Recently Max cake began performing under the Respect Production label, which made it possible to organize concerts not only in Belarus, but also abroad - in Russia, Ukraine, etc.

At the end of 2012, Maxim got married. Wife - Tatyana Matskevich ( Korzh). A few months after the wedding, the young couple had a daughter, whom they named Emilia (Mimi, as Maxim calls her).

Solo career

April 7, 2012 Max cake released the first music video for the song “Heaven will help us.” The video clip quickly took a leading place in the music charts.

November 2, 2013 Max cake, in the Minsk Arena, presented his second album “Living in a Bliss.” For the first time in the musical history of Belarus, a people's artist gathered the country's largest venue, accommodating 13 thousand people.

The popular online publication Afisha-Volna commented on the singer’s work like this:

“Max Korzh is pop hip-hop, club pressure in the style of “come on, beautiful” and courtyard sincerity with a six-string. This is an amazing and clever hybrid of grassroots genres, resulting in one hundred percent bestsellers that are difficult to get rid of no matter how hard you try.”

According to the RAP.RU channel, the album “Live in High” took 5th place in the list of the best Russian-language albums.

And in 2013 Max cake took second place in the competition of the A-One Hip-Hop Music Channel “Artist of the Year”. He also received the Muz TV 2014 “Evolution” award plate for the best album “Live in high.”
